You bought a flex shaft. Now you need the perfect stand. This tutorial will show you how to make a sturdy stand for your flex shaft out of inexpensive pipes, fittings, adapters and other materials. Buy them at your local hardware store or plumbing supply house and you'll have the perfect stand for your work space.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a 3 foot pipe
  • a 1 foot pipe
  • a pipe cap
  • an elbow
  • a mount plate
  • 4 screws
  • drill
  • screw driver
  1. Step 1

Gather your materials. The pipes can be purchased at most hardware or plumbing supply houses.

  2. Step 2

Drill holes into a wood board or your work bench. Screw the 4 screws into the mount plate to hold your flex shaft stand. Take the 3 foot long pipe and screw it into the mount plate.

  3. Step 3

Decide which direction you would like your flex shaft to hang. Screw the elbow onto the top of the 3 foot pipe in your desired direction. Screw the 1 foot pipe into the other side of the elbow. The 3 foot pipe should now stand vertical. The 1 foot pipe now runs parallel to the work bench.

  4. Step 4

Screw the cap onto the other end of the 1 foot pipe. The flex shaft will hang on the 1 foot pipe. The cap will keep the flex shaft in place.

  5. Step 5

Hang you flex shaft on the 1 foot pipe.

Tips & Warnings
  • While the stand will be more secure if you screw it down directly on your work bench, you can bolt it to a board and allow the flex shaft to be moved from one location to another within the studio.
  • Always wear eye protection when drilling.
