Sure, you have decided to have a dinner party and you want a poached salmon. Everyone has gone through this situation. However, you do not have a poaching pan nor the funds to buy one.

Well, here is the perfect solution! Use the dishwasher.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One whole salmon about 5 pounds (cleaned, scaled, but whole)
  • 3 shallots chopped.
  • several sprigs of dill.
  • salt and pepper.
  • mayonaisse
  • couple of dashes of hot sauce.
  • aluminium foil.
  • dishwasher (empty of dishes and soap)
  1. Step 1

Rinse the salmon under cold running water both inside and outside and dry it. Stuff the cavity of the salmon with the chopped shallots and dill. You can also add some lemon wedges if you wish. Salt and pepper the salmon.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the salmon in aluminium foil and be sure to tightly crimp all the edges so no water can get into the package.

  3. Step 3

Place the salmon package on the top rack of the dishwasher and set for a complete wash cycle. The hot water will steam the fish to perfection.

  4. Step 4

In the meantime, mix chopped dill (to taste) with mayonnaise and a few dashes of hot sauce. Store this in the fridge until serving time.

  5. Step 5

After the dishwasher has stopped the cycle, remove the fish package and unwrap it carefully. Do not burn your fingers. Place the salmon on a serving platter, arrange some lemon wedges around it and top with some more sprigs of dill. Serve the mayonnaise sauce on the side.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the salmon is fully cooked before serving. It can always be nuked in the microwave just to ensure complete cooking.
  • Make sure you keep the mayonnaise sauce in the fridge before serving so it stays cold.
