Things You'll Need:
- Art supplies (paper, markers, scissors, tape, glue, etc.)
- A computer with an internet connection
- A printer
- Dr. Seuss books
- Dr. Seuss videos
- Dr. Seuss games
- A cake
- Your imagination
-
Step 1
If you don't own any Dr. Seuss books this would be a great opportunity to take a trip to the library and check some out. You can do this on his birthday or go before his birthday and use the books as inspiration to throw your own Dr. Seuss birthday party on March 2nd. Some Dr. Seuss classics to look for include "The Cat In The Hat", "The Lorax" and "Green Eggs and Ham".
-
Step 2
If you throw a birthday party for Dr. Seuss don't forget to invite your friends! To prepare for your party you can make and send out Dr. Seuss inspired invitations, bake a birthday cake or cupcakes, make hats like the one from "The Cat In The Hat" (floppy top hat with red and white stripes) to wear as party hats, and draw and make all sorts of decorations based on the characters and scenery in the Dr. Seuss books. If drawing isn't your thing you can go online to a site like http://drseusscoloringpages.blogspot.com/ and print out Dr. Seuss coloring pages to color and decorate and hang around the room. Alternatively you could have your guests make their own hats and decorations during the party as part of the activities.
-
Step 3
At your Dr. Seuss party you can, of course, read the Dr. Seuss books ("Happy Birthday To You" by Dr. Seuss would be fitting). You can also play Dr. Seuss games like Cat In The Hat - I Can Do That! or Horton Hears A Who! - You To The Rescue! which are available for purchase in stores. If you don't own any Dr. Seuss games, and don't want to purchase one, you can print out the printable games available at http://www.seussville.com/games/ or invent your own games to play. Another game idea would be to create your own pin-the-tail on the Cat in the Hat game or pin-the-heart on the Grinch game. Find the lyrics to some of the Dr. Seuss songs and sing them. Don't forget to sing the "Happy Birthday" song too while you are at it! Make your own Dr. Seuss style story by sitting in a circle and each taking a turn making up one line of it at a time.
-
Step 4
There are other ways you can celebrate if you don't want to throw a party. You can still use some of the ideas in steps 2 and 3 or maybe you will want to play the online games at http://www.seussville.com or rent and watch a Dr. Seuss DVD like The Grinch Who Stole Christmas or Horton Hears a Who.
-
Step 5
Let Dr. Seuss inspire you and make your own book complete with illustrations.
-
Step 6
Find a copy of the "Green Eggs and Ham Cookbook" by Georgeanne Brennan (illustrated by Dr. Seuss) and have a spectacular Seuss inspired meal.
-
Step 7
There are so many ways you could celebrate and so many things you could do. Just take some time and think of what would sound good to you!
