Things You'll Need:

  • A desire to learn various safe uses for baking soda.
  1. Step 1

Use baking soda to whiten teeth. Place some on your toothbrush and simply brush the same way you would with regular toothpaste. You can still brush with your usual toothpaste if you like, but you may want to use baking soda in addition to your regular brushing routine. You may have noticed that Arm & Hammer actually manufactures toothpaste that contains baking soda. This is another option you can consider. However, you can always just create your own homemade toothpaste from baking soda and water.

  2. Step 2

Speaking of oral health, you can also gargle with baking soda and water to freshen breath and create a clean feeling throughout your whole mouth. You don’t have to use that much baking soda. About half a spoonful mixed into a glass of water should do the trick.

  3. Step 3

Place an open container of baking soda in your fridge to absorb odors from the surrounding foods. (This is one of the most well known and popular uses of baking soda, so you may have already tried it.)

  4. Step 4

If you want your clothes to get extra clean, you can add some baking soda to your wash cycle when doing your laundry.

  5. Step 5

If you want to absorb foot odor in sweaty shoes such as sneakers, you may want to sprinkle some baking soda into the shoes after a workout to absorb both the moisture and the odor.

Tips & Warnings
  • As you can see, there are many different ways to use baking soda. It is one of the more versatile substances around. It’s also quite inexpensive, so you might want to pick up some baking soda the next time you go shopping.
