How To Find The Checking Account Number On A Check
All banks use a standard format to identify routing information and account numbers on their checks, so once you can find an account number for one, you'll be able to find it for all. Once you know the code, signing up for things like online accounts of direct check deposit programs will be a lot easier.
Instructions
-
-
1
Obtain a blank or canceled check for the account in question.
-
2
Look down at the bottom of the check. There are three sets of numbers displayed in the string:
1. The bank's assigned routing number
2. The unique account number
3. The series number of the check -

The bank routing number is first from the left and contains 9 numbers. After the ninth number, you'll see a special character, followed by a string of numbers, then another character, and finally the last set (which is usually 4 numbers) -- the individual check's series number.
The checking account number is the group in the middle.

Tips & Warnings
Always make sure to check an account number twice if you are providing information for an electronic transfer like a direct deposit for payroll or tax refund.
Do not use a deposit slip! The numbers vary from the account number on a check.
