Use brick veneer to add the look and feel of a real brick wall to your favorite room and avoid the cost and hassle of hiring a professional mason.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Brick Veneer
  • Liquid Nails
  • Quickrete
  • Tarps
  • Buckets
  • Paint stirrers
  • Latex gloves
  • Hammer
  1. Step 1

First, determine exactly which wall you want to brick. Ideally, you'll want to pick a wall that doesn't have many elaborate features and/or windows as that will necessitate the use of smaller pieces of brick. Note the dimensions (height and width) of the wall and purchase the correct amount of brick veneer from your local brick yard.

  2. Step 2

Apply a bead of liquid nails to the back of each piece of brick veneer and place it on the wall, holding each piece in place for at least ten seconds before letting go. Be sure to use enough adhesive to ensure a tight bond of the brick to the drywall.

If you come to the end of the wall and don't have enough room to place a full brick, use a hammer to break off a smaller piece.

  3. Step 3

Repeat step two until you've filled the entire wall with brick veneer. Be sure to leave at least a half-inch gap (or more depending on your personal preference) between bricks which you will fill with mortar in the next step.

  4. Step 4

Mix a small bucket full of quickrete and apply to the gaps in between the bricks. When applying the mortar, you'll probably want to wear a pair of latex gloves to prevent it from drying out your skin. Wipe off any excess mortar with a damp paper towel.

Let the liquid nails and mortar cure overnight before touching.
