Things You'll Need:
- Budget Calculator
- Camera
- Notebook

Step 1
The first, and most important step in decorating on a dime is to set a budget. If you and your fiance are footing the bill, discuss together a budget for your Wedding. Determine which features are most important to you, and set a goal to which you are both comfortable. Begin with an overall price and break it down for each aspect of the Wedding, Rehearsal, Ceremony, Reception, etc., then break down each of these until you have an item by item budget list.
-
Step 2
The easiest way to decorate for a Wedding Reception on a dime is to use available resources, which have no cost to you. Choose the venue first. Visit the location in person and spend an hour looking over the area. Bring a notebook and measuring tape. Take measurements of the room, and ask if you are allowed to take pictures. The pictures will be a go-to for colors and themes. Ask what resources are your's to use. Most places include the use of tables and chairs into the price of reservations. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
-
Step 3
Choose a color theme. Incorporating or complementing the colors of the Reception Venue will help minimize the decorations. If the tables and chairs are of good quality and attractive design, consider not using table cloths or chair covers. If these are necessary, check local rental companies and their policies on pick-up in lieu of delivery and set-up. Keeping the linens basic will allow for a wider range of color choices.
-
Step 4
Once you have chosen a color theme, next is to choose the flowers. The flowers need not be the most expensive aspect of your decor; if you are brave enough to attempt the arrangements yourself! Research common and available flowers for the season and location of your wedding. Again, the internet is a great resource. Don't rule out cheaper flowers such as carnations and spray roses; these last for days, are easy to handle and come in a wide variety of colors. In lieu of the traditional florist, check your local Super Markets for ordering flowers as they order from similar Wholesale distributors, and are most always cheaper.
-
Step 5
The centerpieces for your reception are the focus of the party, prior to your arrival of course! Combining different arrangements, vases and table decor will add appeal to the event without spending a lot of money. If you decide to rent china and silver, keep these simple, as too much will overwhelm the tables, and will warrant more extravagant centerpieces. Lighting and candles will add drama at a small price. Shop discount stores for votive candles; a few on each table will do so much!
-
Step 6
Finally, the food. Don't over exert yourself by trying to provide the food yourself. Shop around for caterers or even bulk or wholesale Super Markets. Its fairly easy and cheap to rent carafes for hot foods. Plastic serving ware comes in a wide variety of styles, and most look like the real thing. However you decide to furnish foods, keep in mind that this is one of the most impressionable aspects of your Wedding Rehearsal, and cheap may not always be better.
-
Step 7
After all is said and done, remember that this is supposed to be the "Moment of your Life." Give yourself plenty of time to make rational decisions for decor. Jumping on the first available option may not always be the best. Decorating on a dime can be fun! Good Luck!
