Step 1
The first thing to remember when at a blackjack table, is that unless you go big when you can, and play aggressive when the odds are in your favor, you will probably lose in the long run. Knowing when to hit and when to stay definitely is important, but knowing when to split and double can help you walk away a winner.
-
Step 2
Doubling and splitting are the biggest help to a player when they are used correctly. If you have a 11 showing, double. I don't care what the dealer has face up... DOUBLE! There are so many ways to get 21, that this is the chance for you to make up for a recent loss. If you have a 10 showing, the only way I do not double is if the dealer has a 10 or an ACE. This is the first step to having a chance.
-
Step 3
Splitting is fun, exciting, and gives you that extra hand... but is not always recommended. If you have ACES, split... no matter what. If you have tens, or two face cards and you split, you have fallen into one of the most common "sucker" moves on a blackjack table. The odds of your original 20 not winning, are pretty bad. You need to keep the 20 no matter how tempting splitting is! Split your 8's unless the dealer shows an ACE. Never split 4's or 5's. Split your 2's or 3's if the dealer shows a 4, 5, 6, or 7. Split your 6's if dealer shows a 2-6. Split your 7's if dealer shows a 2-7. Split your 9's if dealer shows 2-6, 8, or 9.
