Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet is the first step in the diet's plan. This phase is the shortest phase and is meant to rid your body of cravings and get you started on the way to a healthy lifestyle.

    First you need to prepare yourself for your new way of eating. Start by eliminating the bad foods from your home. You'll want to remove things like bread, potatoes, pasta, and sweets from your house. While the South Beach Diet is a low carb diet, the first two weeks are completely carb free.

  2. Step 2

    Next you need to learn the difference between good and bad carbohydrates. Vegetables contain carbs, but not all of them contain bad carbs. Sticking with green vegetables is the key here. No carrots, corn, or potatoes.

  3. Step 3

    Teach yourself to read the labels on the products you buy. During phase 1 of the South Beach Diet, you can't have things like ketchup or some salad dressings. Reading the labels on products before you buy them will help you determine if it's something you should eat or not. You don't want to eat things with carbs or a lot of sugar.

  4. Step 4
