If you want to clean out your old clothes and don't want to make it an all day project, do these few things and you'll be well on your way, to clothes that fit, and a closet with only the items you want. No heavy thinking or losing the weekend over it.

Clear your mind while you get dressed!
Reduce the closet "stress"!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plenty of hangers and/or one empty drawer.
  • One post it note
  • Just a little time.
  1. Step 1

Step up to or into your closet. Armed with enough hangers to get what should be hung up, hung up. That was the hard part....

For drawers and/or shelves, go to step 6.

  2. Step 2

Hang all of your hangers backward on the bar(s), with your clothes on them.

  3. Step 3

Write todays date down on the post it or paper, tear a whole in the paper and fish it over the top hook of a hanger and hang it in the first slot of your closet. (without clothes on it)

  4. Step 4

As you wear your clothes, hang them back up with the hangers in the proper direction.

  5. Step 5

At the end of the season, you will be able to identify what you have not worn. You can pitch clothes still hung backwards, without much thought.

If you want to go through all the season, then just check the date and in a year, if you haven't worn it...pitch it!

Donate your items and streamline your mind!

  6. Step 6

To sort out the drawers or shelves: Clean out one drawer or shelf so it is completely empty and clear. This is your "empty zone". Place a post it with todays date in the empty zone.

  7. Step 7

As you wear your clothes, transfer them into the "empty zone".

  8. Step 8

Since you pull things from several drawers and or shelves, once your "empty zone" is full, repeat the process with the remaining drawers and or shelves.

  9. Step 9

At the end of the season, you will be able to identify what you have not worn. You can pitch clothes still hung backwards, without much thought.

If you want to go through all the season, then just check the date and in a year, if you haven't worn it...pitch it!

Donate your items and streamline your mind!

Tips & Warnings
  • To streamline the process, you may want to rehang your worn items at one end of the closet. This will allow you to start feeling the benefits of only dealing with the clothes that you like and wear often. By the time you're ready to do the pitching, everything old and unworn will be together at one end.
  • Warning: By cleaning out your closet, you may feel the urge to do more shopping!
