How to Replace Recessed Lighting

You will find out how to replace your recessed light

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • long nose plier
  • flat head screw driver
  • flash light
  1. Step 1

    When you look up to the light you will see the outside cover plate, most of the new recessed light fixture or can is clamped on the ceiling plaster or drywall and the other has an extended metal bracket that can reach two ceiling joist to mount to.

  2. Step 2

    Most of the small recessed light is snapped on to the can mounted into the ceiling, get your flat head and carefully pry the cover down.

  3. Step 3

    Most of the time the cover has two metal clip holding the light, you just disconnect the wire from the end of the light, take the light away from the cover. then you can change it.

  4. Step 4

    The other kind, you have to pull down on the outer finish cover, look inside the can there is suppose to have two spring holding the cover into the light can, disconnect these two spring and take off the cover, and you can change the light and put the cover' s spring back.

Tips & Warnings
  • make sure the electric is off from the main panel
  • double check if the switch or the panel' s breaker is off
