Have you just gotten a puppy and realized your house is un-prepared for a puppy? Is there un-safe material gathered on the floors where your puppy can get it? These 3 easy steps will help you make your house .... puppy-proof!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baby gates
  • An area with floors that don't stain
  • Food/water bowls (and soft dog food made for puppies)
  • A timer
  • A pillow and blanket
  • A heating pad
  • Newspaper(Old newspaper)
  1. Step 1

First find a place with floors that do not stain and clean anything the puppy may find off of the floor. Place baby gates in each door way (If there are any doorways)until the whole area is blocked off. If there are any rugs in the room....... take them out! Puppies do have accidents. Place newspaper in one corner of the room where the puppy can see it. (Replace the newspaper every time the puppy has an accident)

  2. Step 2

Place a pillow in a different corner of the room than the newspaper. Lay a blanket on the pillow and slip a heating pad under the blanket. To the puppy this feels like being near it's mother. Put the timer next to the bed. This sounds like the mother's heart beat. This should make the puppy feel safe.

  3. Step 3

Fill a food bowl with some soft, dog food made for puppies. NOT regular dog food. That would lead to an upset stomach. Fill the water bowl with cold (not too cold) water. Lay the bowls slightly away from the bed. Your home is now puppy-proof and your puppy will be safe and healthy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check on the puppy ever so often to make sure she/he is ok
  • Lay a piece of your old clothing on top of the puppies bed
  • Buy LOT'S of puppy toy' s and bones to keep your puppy occupied.
  • NEVER have candy where your puppy can get it
  • Keep plastic things away from the puppy
