Revive an Old Clothes Dryer
Revive an Old Clothes Dryer

Is your dryer taking longer to dry? Do you have a lot of dust in and around your laundry room. It is likely that your discharge hose is clogged or not attached.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vacuum Cleaner
  • Wetvac
  1. Step 1

To increase the efficiency of your dryer there are a few things you can do to easily help. Unplug the dryer and pull it away from the wall so you can get to the rear of the unit.

  2. Step 2

Remove the discharge hose and take a vacuum cleaner or wet vac with the hose attachments and use it to vacuum out all the lent from the hose, wall vent, and the dryer itself. You may even have a coat hanger to use to dislodge any compacted lint (Remember that the 1st step is to unplug the dryer). Use the coat hanger on the wall vent and the dryer it may be a good idea to just replace the dryer vent hose if it is damaged.

  3. Step 3

From the top remove the lent catch and clean it out and vacuum the area it goes into and as deep as you can reach. You may also use the coat hanger here also.

  4. Step 4

Replace everything make sure the vent hose is installed correctly so that lint and hot air goes to the vent and not into the room. I have seen where in a home the laundry room was near the thermostat and every time they would dry clothes it would set of the A/C in the Summer and turn off the heat in the winter this can be costly not to mention very uncomfortable.

  5. Step 5

Push every thing back into place being careful as not to bind the vent hose, if you do it could prevent the hot air being routed outside.

    Good Luck.
