Homemade Sloppy Joes
Homemade Sloppy Joes

We are big Sloppy Joe fans in our house! My son's favorite is the boring Sloppy Joe spice packet kind with the can of tomato paste - yawn! But my favorite Sloppy Joes are the more 'homemade' type that you simmer for awhile on your stove top or in your slow cooker or crockpot.

These are soooo delicious, give them a try and see for yourself!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 lb Ground Meat
  • 1 bottle of Chili Sauce (near the ketchup, in the same type of bottle as the Cocktail Sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons of Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp of Vinegar
  • 1 splash of Hot Sauce
  1. Step 1

Brown the hamburger meat in a frying pan, drain.

  2. Step 2

Add the rest of the ingredients to the browned meat.

  3. Step 3

Simmer at least 15 minutes, but I usually simmer for 30 minutes to an hour.

  4. Step 4
    Baked Potato

    Baked Potato

Serve on Hamburger buns or buns of your choice. Serve with baked potatoes to really keep the budget friendly.

  5. Step 5
    Slow Cooker

    Slow Cooker

If you cook the Sloppy Joes in the slow cooker or crockpot, just brown the ground meat and drain. Then add all ingredients to the slow cooker and cook on low until ready to serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can tweak this recipe with: 1 onion, a dash of Worchesterchire Sauce, and/or a couple of teaspoons of Relish, or even more hot sauce or brown sugar. The reason why I don't is because my kids are super picky eaters!
  • You can use ground turkey or chicken in place of ground beef.
