Whether you cut your marjoram fresh from the garden or purchase it from the supermarket, this delicate herb needs to stay fresh to enhance your recipes. Marjoram has been compared to a milder oregano in flavor, having a thyme-like quality. But as soon as you cut fresh marjoram, you must take efforts to preserve the flavor. Fresh-cut marjoram usually lasts a week, but if you take these steps, you can extend marjoram's life by a week or more.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper towels
  • Sealable plastic bag
  • Lettuce or greens keeper
  1. Step 1

Rinse the freshly cut marjoram under cool water.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the marjoram stems in a couple of paper towels. Sprinkle water on the paper towels, just enough to moisten and not soak the towels.

  3. Step 3

Place the towel with marjoram in a sealable plastic bag. Place it in the vegetable drawer of the fridge.

  4. Step 4

Check the paper towel every day or every other day to make sure the towel is damp. Sprinkle it with water if the towel dries out. This should extend the life of your marjoram for almost two weeks.

  5. Step 5

Use a greens keeper meant for lettuces to keep marjoram fresh for more than a week. Rinse your marjoram with cool water and place in the greens keeper.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to purchase fresh marjoram without any wilting or rotting leaves. This is an indication the marjoram is older and may spoil sooner than expected.
