Things You'll Need:
- Time and internet connection.

Step 1
First, check the going rates at one of the big travel websites or use Kayak.com to search multiple sites and get an estimate of the going rate. Also use travelzoo and other discount sites to find deals for the time of your vistit.
-
Step 2
For midtown hotels check out budget lines like Comfort Inns, Super 8 or other similar brands. There is a small boutique Comfort Inn around the corner from Times Square that is nice. Small but affordable. Use tripadvisor.com to get reviews of the hotels you are considering.

Step 3
If you don't mind a train or cab ride to the city consider New Jersey or staying away from Times Square. Many hotels in the SOHO area or near ground zero can be much nicer and lower priced. The subway is great means of transportation to get you around cheaply with a metro card. This can save you up to $100 per night, while allow you to visit the Big Apple.

Step 4
Check out hostels and bed and breakfast type inns where you share a bathroom, this can save alot of money. Be sure to book a cancellable rate, deals can come up at any time and this can allow you to cancel your room and get a better room for a lower rate.
