Save Money Shopping Online and In Person

Who doesn’t like to save money? Everyone enjoys finding a good deal, especially in times like these when money is tight. This article will explain how to save money whether you’re shopping online or at your favorite store.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Often when you are making a purchase online, you will notice that there is a space to enter a coupon code. Many people will complete the purchase and leave this field blank if they don’t have a coupon. These people are throwing their money away! All you have to do is perform a quick search on google or yahoo for “xyz” coupon codes. For example, if you’re buying some clothes from American Eagle, type “American Eagle coupon codes” in your search engine and you will likely find a coupon code you can use.

  2. Step 2

If you’re shopping in person and you know that the store you’re in sends out coupons regularly, ask the cashier if there are any coupons that apply to your purchase. This is especially likely to work if you are a regular customer or a member of that store’s membership program. I used to work in a retail store with a membership program and we would always apply the current coupon if the customer told us they’d forgotten to bring it in. Many times we would apply the current coupon for members after they asked about it, regardless of whether they had received it or not.

  3. Step 3

Be aware of regular seasonal sales that occur. For example, many stores have sales that are scheduled to take place at the same time every year. These are typically things like “buy 2, get 1 free”, “save 50%”, or a clearance sale.

  4. Step 4

Also, be aware of the times when certain items drop in price significantly. For example, at the beginning of a new year, you can find wrapping paper and calendars at a steep discount. The same concept applies to clothes that are about to go out of season, like winter coats at the end of winter/beginning of spring.

  5. Step 5

Be on the lookout for items that decrease in price after they’re released. This category includes things like electronics, computers, cars and even DVDs. If you wait a little while instead of buying one of these items the second it comes out, you can get a better value.
