Treat Receding Gums with Oil Pulling

Receding gums is a common problem in adults over forty, but may occur in people of all ages. It causes exposure of the roots of the teeth, and loss of gum tissue. Many people undergo extreme receding gum treatments, such as surgery, to remedy the problem. However, there is an Indian folk (Ayurveda) remedy, known as oil pulling, that has helped many people avoid gum surgery, and improved receding gums – even helped them regrow lost tissue.

Oil pulling is known not only for it’s proven benefit on receding gums, but also for whitening teeth, freshening breath, reversing gum loss and stopping bleeding gums. The antibacterial properties of the oil completely revitalize oral health. There are numerous claims that oil pulling can also cleanse the body of harmful toxins, although there is little scientific evidence to back this up. The truth is, oil pulling has helped thousands of people cure and reverse receding gums and many other health problems. Try this simple, natural, and completely harmless receding gums treatment, and find out for yourself. What have you got to lose?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sesame oil
  • Anti-bacterial soap (optional)
  1. Step 1

Take one tablespoon of sesame oil and place it in your mouth. The oil pulling to treat receding gums (or any other disorder) should be performed first thing in the morning, before breakfast, and on an empty stomach.

  2. Step 2

Swish the oil around in your mouth slowly, as though you were rinsing with mouth wash. Suck the oil and “pull” it through the teeth, over and again. This will thoroughly mix the oil with saliva. Continue pulling the oil through the teeth for 10-20 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Spit the oil out when it has become thin and white. If the oil is yellow and thick, you have not performed the oil pulling long enough. Continue until it has changed color and texture, for the greatest benefit to your receding gums.

  4. Step 4

Rinse the mouth thoroughly with water to ensure that all the bacteria is removed form the teeth, tongue, and receding gums. Rub the gums with clean fingers to ensure you haven’t missed anything, and to stimulate circulation.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the oil pulling process up to three times per day, for 10-20 minutes each time, to speed the healing of receding gums. Always perform the procedure prior to meals, and on an empty stomach.

  6. Step 6

Clean the sink basin thoroughly with an anti-bacterial soap, if you spit into the sink. You may wish to spit into the toilet, to avoid this. Be aware that the oil is filled with toxins and bacteria once it leaves your mouth, and take precautions.

Tips & Warnings
  • If sesame oil is not available, you may use sunflower oil instead. Both of these are effective for treating receding gums through oil pulling.
  • Do not swallow while oil pulling, at any time. After swishing for several minutes, the oil becomes toxic and laden with the bacteria in your mouth. The oil will only benefit your receding gums if the steps above are followed exactly.

on 2/22/2009 As an update, I've been doing this for the past week and my teeth are SIGNIFICANTLY whiter, my gums are not bleeding, and my mouth feels much FRESHER. I am doing this along with a seven day orange juice cleanse and it has helped tremendously. Good luck if you decide to do it!
