Decorate Your Baby's Room With Little Money

My article is about creating a wonderful baby or child bedroom with little money.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You do not need a lot of money to have a wonderful baby's or child room. Furniture and decorations for baby's and children are getting more and more expensive nowadays, but...is that what THEY really need, or is all this more about us parents? Here is some ideas on how I decorated my baby's bedroom with little money.

  2. Step 2

The only item I bought was the crib, which I personally did not want to buy used. All the other things I bought them at garage sales, on ebay or I created them with items I had in the house. Like this wonderful dresser in the picture. I bought the dresser for $10 at a garage sale, but you can try thrift stores and such. They often have good deals. I bought wood paint and a brush ($10) and then I glued a clown on it (bought at Walmart for few dollars). Result? Alot of compliments from friends and relatives, and about $100 dollars saved on one item.
Visit garage sales and thrift stores, you can often find great items and give back to the community.

  3. Step 3

    * paint the room yourself, instead of paying someone and choose non toxic paint. Involve friends, in exchange for a good piece of cake.
    * buy big pieces of paper and draw something cute on it: animals, or cars, or clowns. You do not need to be a painter. Often you can find images in old magazines or in books and carbon copy them or just glue them. Then hang your collage on the wall, in a nice frame.
    * open your closet: I am sure you can find some fabrics you can reuse to make some cute throw pillow to toss on the floor. You child will love them.
    * Decorate the house with some old objects that belong to your family. I personally find pretty sad to stuff a baby's room with stuff bought in a store made in China, if you know what I mean. I asked relatives and friends to give me one item each, something that would mean something to them. My baby is now surrounded with alot of love.
    * Use old boxes of different shapes and sizes, like shoe boxes or bigger. Then buy some paper and cover the boxes with it. It makes a great storage item at 0 cost almost. And you can store stuff by keeping the boxes under a crib or bed.
    * -You can make a cute canopy for your baby's bed by using some fabric you have around the house. It makes a cozy bed!!
    * And one more thing: TOYS
    * Kids are curious. I noticed my son of 1 year old would not even play with regular toys. He rather plays with objects he finds around the house that stimulate his imagination... so I gave him old boxes (cleaned) of baby formula and a spoon, and he uses the bow as a drum. Which keeps him occupied and happy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not put any pillows in cribs or let small children play with pillows.
