Live in a area where it is cold and dark 5 months of the year? This is how to beat cabin fever, survive and stay sane in the mid winter blues.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get the right gear. Go to an outdoor outfitter and get quality gear that will last. Warmth, waterproof, weight and comfort are what you need for daily life and to get outdoors in the winter.

  2. Step 2

Getting outdoors will get you the sunlight you need, exercise and fresh air. More traditional activities could include skiing or snow boarding, snowshoeing, ice skating and sledding. Trips to the beach, park, hiking or walks downtown can also be fun in the winter.

  3. Step 3

Exercise. Join the gym or indoor sports like basketball, tennis, racquetball, volleyball and swimming. This will increase your endorphins making you feel better plus the added bonus of getting in shape.

  4. Step 4

Start a new hobby or take a class. You could do Tai Chi or salsa dancing. Learn to play an instrument or some type of creative project. Something you have always wanted to do to keep you occupied and provide enjoyment.

  5. Step 5

If your going to be at home then make a list and start some home projects. Clean that closet, paint that room, refinish the floors, redecorate a room or build a book case.
