This trick's an essential of street skating, so add it to your arsenal quickly.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Skate Rails
  • Skateboard Decks
  • Skateboard Helmets
  • Skateboard Pads
  • Skateboard Parts
  • Skateboard Trucks
  • Skateboard Wheels
  • Skateboarding Shoes
  • Skateboards

Step1
Roll toward whatever object you want to slide on at a slight angle (close to parallel).
Step2
Determine whether an ollie is required. If the object is low, take the weight off your front wheels as you lift them and turn the board over the object. You must turn 90 degrees fairly quickly to avoid sliding or losing your momentum. Your chest should be facing the front when you land. If the object is high, hit your tail and ollie onto it. After you pop the tail and are starting to go up, turn your body 90 degrees frontside and aim over the object so you land on it with the middle of the board.
Step3
Bend your knees as you land to ease the transition into sliding. Your momentum should begin the slide for you.
Step4
Stay with your slide as long as you can or as long as the object permits.
Step5
Begin to turn back toward the direction you were rolling as you near the end of the object, and simply drop off. If there is no end, pop off the object, pushing your rear wheels against the side of the object as you turn your body.

Tips & Warnings

  • Start on a low double-sided curb with an end to it, and then work your way up to blocks and rails.
  • Watch out for objects taller than your hips to avoid uncomfortable straddle-landings when you shoot out.
  • Skateboarding is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.

on 6/30/2006 Before you try to slide along the ledge, skate straight at it (slowly), and ollie up landing in the boardslide position. Doing this means you can practice the technique without worrying about balancing a slide. Once you are landing with the board centered over the edge every time, try riding at it with a slight angle so you get a little slide. Once you are comfortable with this have a go at a proper boardslide. Too many people try a boardslide straight off and slam hard, then never try again. When coming off the end, try and land on the back wheels first, your momentum should pivot you back round. At all times keep your weight low and centered (don't lean back).

on 6/30/2006 Roll toward the object at a comfortable speed. Ollie, and turn 90 degrees. Land on the object when you get to the end, then turn another 90 degrees the opposite way. Land and roll away. Don't be scared!

on 11/22/2005 As your riding to the rail, or whatever you're about to slide on, you either ollie, a 90 or a bit of a powerslide, but lift your nose on your board up. When you get on the rail, lean forward a tiny bit and keep your shoulders square, slide off, and do another 90.

on 4/12/2008 Don't think about it, you'll fall! Just ride up at a slow speed, ollie up, and push forward and slide and ride off.
