Things You'll Need:
- Commitment
-
Step 1
First step is to understand that abs don't come from a silly machine that you've seen on an infomercial. Abs come mainly from a reduction of body fat. If you do a million crunches, you will not see anything if your abs are covered with fat. To get abs, you will need to use a combination of good nutrition and exercise.
-
Step 2
Step 2 is to change your diet. Eat complex carbohydrates and stray from simple ones such as sugars and avoid fats. Saturated fats and trans fats are especially vicious. Eat 6 small meals per day; usually consume a good protein source every 3 hours. Avoid eating late at night unless it is a low fat protein source. Eat a lot of vegetables. Step 3
Here comes the exercise. Believe it or not, cardiovascular exercise will probably be most beneficial to get you abs. The best kind of cardio is running. Run every night, and don't just walk. Get about 20 minutes of rigorous running and build your stamina each time you go out to run.
-
Step 4
Now let's discuss the actual abwork. Every day, or every other day, start off by doing 3 sets of crunches. Make sure you come up as far as you can, and raise your head, tightening your stomach and not pulling up with your neck. Afterwards, switch side to side doing crunches as if you were riding a bycicle, bringing each elbow to the opposite knee. Do three sets of these. If you have access to a hanging leg-raise, do a few more sets of those, bringing your knees up to your chest.
