Use a Clothes Steamer

Clothes steamers are great for getting wrinkles out of delicate fabric or clothing that is simply difficult to iron. It can take a little getting used to, but a steamer is a great way to keep clothes well-pressed without constantly running to the dry cleaners

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A hanger
  • Clothes steamer
  1. Step 1

Hang the clothing item you wish to steam such that it hanging freely and the way you would like it to drape. Using the curtain rod of a shoer is an ideal spot as it is high off the ground, allows complete access o all sides of the garment, and is in a room that will not be adversely affected by steam.

  2. Step 2

Fill steamer with water to just below the "fill line." Turn on and wait for steam to begin coming out. Shake out the nozzle where the steam comes out to get rid of condensed water. Stretch the hose as best you can, not allowing it to crimp or lay on the floor, so steam flows freely.

  3. Step 3

Start at the bottom of the garment and let the steam rise to the top. Use you hand to smooth the garment as you go. Work your way systematically up and around the garment until all of the wrinkles have been released. Developing a method for steaming efficiently takes a little practice.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your steamer starts to gurgle, shake out the nozzle and then hold it up as high as the hose allows until the steam flows more quietly
  • Steam is hot, so be careful
