How to Get a UPC Bar Code

How to Get a UPC Bar Code thumbnail
UPC bar codes help retailers manage inventory.

The Uniform Product Code converts information about a retail product into the form of a 12-digit bar code. When the UPC bar code is scanned for purchase, the cash register displays details such as the product's name, price, size and color. After the sale, the retailer's computer system updates its records to show one less unit in inventory. GS1 US, a not-for-profit organization, reviews applications and distributes UPC bar codes to qualifying products.
