How to Get More Bidders on Your Ebay Auctions

Ways to generate more bids, bidding wars, visits, etc on Ebay and other auction sites.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • computer w/internet access
  • digital camera and/or scanner
  • time
  • storage space
  1. Step 1

Join a free template website such as auctivia.com. Auctivia.com is 100 percent free and provides hundreds of different backgrounds to make whatever you're selling more appealing to the browser/buyer's eye.

  2. Step 2

Give a detailed description of your item. Don't just list the title and throw in a picture and think you're done. Tell the bidders the condition of the item(s), the original cost, the specific details, etc.

  3. Step 3

Include at least one picture of the item you're selling. A picture really does say a thousand or more words.

  4. Step 4

Start your bidding low. It costs less money to list an item with an opening bid of 1 penny and items with low starting bids generate lots more hits than items with high or even average starting bids. Also low starting bids get people to bid right away and often lead to bidding wars between 2 or more buyers.

  5. Step 5

Check your auctions daily and answer questions from bidders as soon as possible.

  6. Step 6

List your fees for postage and handling and specify if you will ship internationally or not. If people are afraid of unexpected or outrageous postage fees they won't take the time to ask the cost of shipping. They're going to click on the next seller's item and bid because all the costs are listed up front.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's best to start your auctions and end them on weekend days in the afternoon or early evening hours. You'll get a lot more traffic than if your auction ends at 2:30 am on a Wednesday.
  • Do not accept personal checks. I've been burned before and learned that lesson the hard way.
  • Set up a bidder blocker to block bidders with negative feedback from bidding on your items.
