To plan a budget, you must first determine how much of your income you want to include. You can include all your income, but if you do, make sure to include a savings plan in your budget. Don't think you have to spend every dime you make.

After you figure your income, you need to get all your normal bills. Bills like mortgage, utilities, and any loan or credit card payments should be included first. Put these amounts in your monthly budget, and see how much income you have remaining. Don't forget to include gasoline for your auto. Now comes the tricky part.

Most of your remaining income will be spent on things you need. Determine how much you want to spend on things like groceries, eating out, household supplies, and entertainment. You can figure this amount by looking back at how much you have spent in the past. This is also the part of your budget that you control. Leave some money in your budget for unexpected expenses and for saving.

Once you have your budget planned, stick to it. Do not exceed spending on certain items and think you can make up for it somewhere else. It want work. Stay within your boundaries and watch your savings grow.
