Play areas in your home allow puppies and small dogs to be active while being contained in one area. Dedicate a section of a room for the play area, but take steps to protect the floor underneath. Keep the mess from dogs, especially puppies that aren't house-trained, to a minimum with special flooring.

Things You'll Need

  • Circular baby gate or dog pen
  • Large piece of cardboard
  • Linoleum tiles with a sticky backing

Assemble a circular, enclosed baby gate or dog pen. Ensure that the walls of the gate are high enough to contain your puppy.

Cut or create a piece of cardboard that is slightly larger than the play area space. A discarded box from a washer or dryer would be ideal.

Attach the linoleum tiles to the cardboard until the entire surface is covered. The linoleum will provide an easy-to-clean surface and protect the floor underneath.

Place the cardboard floor underneath the gate. Add toys and a blanket during play time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make it a place they enjoy and not a punishment.
  • Provide adequate toys and talk to them while they are in there.
  • When they cry to come out let them out for a while
  • These will not work for large dogs they will just jump out.
