Perform a Front Kick in Karate

You will learn the basics of how to perform a front kick.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • comfortable clothing or martial arts uniform (gi)
  • adequate space to perform movement
  • martial arts video
  1. Step 1

Stand up straight with your feet together bending your knees slightly. Hands should about 6" from your side with both hands in a fist like you are holding a heavy bucket of something. For better balance bend your knees and look at one spot on the wall

  2. Step 2

Bring your right knee up so that your thigh is at least 90 degrees to the floor. Your foot and knee should also be at a 90 degree angle to each other. The higher that you can raise your knee the better.

  3. Step 3

Kick your leg out and back. Snapping the kick out and back is important you can think of this like snapping out a towel. It should have the same quickness out and back.

  4. Step 4

Then place the foot back down on the floor where it started. Repeat same steps and kick using the other leg.

Tips & Warnings
  • Warm up first
  • Martial arts can be very dangerous especially if the techniques are not performed properly. It is recommended to be under supervision from a trained professional.
