How to install wire mesh fencing

Things You'll Need:

• lumber-8 foot length 2x4's- quantity depending on length of fence
• coil of wire mesh fencing-1/2 in. square rubber coated style- pretty much good for everything
• 3 1/2 inch wood screws
• aviation shears to cut fencing if needed
• quick set concrete
• drill
• wood saw
• level
• tape measure
• safety glasses
• gloves

1. Dig a hole approximately 6 inches in diameter and 12 inches deep every 8 feet along the perimeter of where the fence will be using a post hole digger.

2. Now you will make your posts that will support the wire mesh fencing. You will need one 8 foot 2x4 per hole you dug. Cut each 8 foot 2x4 at 36 inches. You will now have a 36 inch and 60 inch piece from each 2x4.

3. Take the 60 inch. pieces and set them in the holes and fill with quick setting concrete up to about 3 inches from ground level. Allow to set for 24 hours.

4. Now your ready to install your wire mesh to the posts. Use the 36 inch pieces of 2x4. Place wire mesh between post and 36 inch piece, aligning the top edge of all the pieces. Screw through the 36 inch piece, wire mesh, and post using 3 1/2 inch wood screws. Use 2 screws at the top, one in the middle, and two at the bottom of each post.

5. Pull wire mesh tight to next post and repeat previous step until your fence is complete. Trim excess fencing with aviation shears if needed.

6. Backfill base of all posts to ground level and re-seed if needed.

Tips & Warnings

• It may be helpful if you have a second person when fastening the wire mesh.
• Wire mesh can be very sharp on cut edges.
• Always wear safety glasses and protective gloves.
