LinkedIn can often be looked at as the "Facebook" of the professional world. Growing your network can be a valuable tool for many different reasons, depending on what you use LinkedIn for.

There are many different methods for growing your network, and you have to choose the method that best fits how you use the site.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • LinkedIn Account
  • Time
  1. Step 1

The first thing you should do, before adding anyone to your network, is complete the user profile as much as possible. The more complete your profile is, the easier it is for people to find you.

  2. Step 2

Invite everyone you know to become a part of your network. This is the easiest way to grow your network. Chances are, if you have any type of relationship with someone in the real world, they will be happy to join your network.

  3. Step 3

Join groups that are related to what you are using the site for. For example, if you are looking to connect with Accounting Professionals, there are groups dedicated to that profession. There are also groups geared toward "open networkers", or those trying to connect with the masses. Joining these groups, like "LIONS" or "TopLinked," will grow your network substantially.

  4. Step 4

Invite people in common groups to join your network. This seems pretty simple, but some won't take the time to go through their groups to invite people. If you focus on inviting 5 people per day, you will add 150 per month to your network, through your efforts alone.

  5. Step 5

Tell people about your profile, and ask them to invite you to their network using mediums outside LinkedIn. The most common method is using an e-mail signature with a link to your profile. This will increase the number of invites your receive and make growing your network easier.

Tips & Warnings
  • Put your e-mail address in your profile to make it easier for people to invite you.
  • If you want to connect with someone you don't know, be sincere in the message you put in the invitation, and tell them why you want to connect!
  • LinkedIn frowns upon having your e-mail address in your profile, and may ask you to remove it.
