St. Patrick's Day is a lovely excuse to chase away the "endless winter" blues by hosting a St. Patrick's Day party for your classroom, or your child's classroom.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A pot or bucket (for the gold at the end of the rainbow)
  • Sidewalk chalk in rainbow colors
  • Dark green lipstick and foot stencil for leprechaun footprints
  • Bubble gum coins and/or chocolate coins for pot at the end of the rainbow
  • Cupcakes or treats
  • St. Patrick's Day Crafts
  • temporary Tattoos
  • A washcloth for each child
  • St. Patrick's Day favors and treats
  1. Step 1

Order craft supplies or craft kits now, so that you have time to get them shipped before St. Patrick's Day. I use Oriental Trading, and they have lots of cool kits for jewelry, crafts, etc.
    Be creative!

  2. Step 2

Make arrangements to decorate before the kids come to class, or while they are at recess. Make a mess, because you KNOW how naughty leprechauns are, and they would tip desks over, pile all the backpacks in a pile, make footprints across the tables, desks, and maybe even on the wall! We made footprints by making a closed fist, and putting lipstick on the end of our hands to make the "foot", and then put a small dab of lipstick on the end of each finger to make little toe prints.

  3. Step 3

Make a chalk rainbow across the wall, having it end up in a hidden spot, where you will place your pot of gold. As an alternative, you could leave clues around, and make them look for the pot of gold. Put your chocolate and bubble gum coins in your pot, and place it in the appropriate spot.

Set crafts out at each table or desk for the kids to work on during the party.

  4. Step 4

Set up a tattoo station for tattoos, complete with one wet washcloth per child, which each child can "re-wet" for additional tattoos. The kids will have a lot more fun if you set up ground rules, such as two big ones and two little ones per child, and let them choose the ones they like instead of just handing them out.

  5. Step 5

Bring lovely St. Patrick's Day treats. This is a great day to go green! Rice Krispies with green sprinkles added to the marshmallows, St. Patrick's Day cupcakes, green candy, green gum, green gummy worms...you get the picture!

  6. Step 6

You can get as carried away with favors and treats as your budget will allow! You can buy St. Patrick's Day throw beads (similar to Mardi Gras Throw beads, but with Shamrocks added!). If you buy party cups, you can fill them with St. Patrick's Day favors, and be the hit of the party.
