Even if you have no insurance, call your local psychiatric hospital. Alcohol and drug addiction often comes with severe depression, if you have had thoughts of hurting yourself, these hospitals are required to help you. It does not mean that you will not get a bill later, it just means that they will admit you and get you the help you need for the depression and for your addiction.

Do not try and detox on your own. If you are detoxing from alcohol, you need medical supervision. Alcohol withdrawal can result in heart issues or seizures. If you have withdraw symptoms such as shaking, seating, dizziness, heart palpitations, diarrhea, or vomiting, go to the emergency room immediately, they are also required to help you. Different drugs have different withdraw elements. Some things, like Opiates may have symptoms that make you feel like you're dying but you won't, this is not necessarily a medical detox issue and you may be able to sweat it out at home with lots of help. Ask your doctor about the substances you are using, he should be able to tell you if you need to be in the hospital.

If you are not able to find an inpatient treatment program, check into AA and NA, go as often as you can, several times a day if you can. Find a sponsor quickly and make that person a central part of your support system.
