Before you make your cake to send, consider the following:
• Size of cake
• Total cost you want to spend sending the cake
• DestinationThe size of the cake will determine what you will need for a container to send it in. You will want to look for a container that has a lid and is big enough for the sides not to touch, but small enough so the base of the cake doesn't have room to slide around. Alternately, you can also choose to send the cake in the pan you baked it in.
The bigger the cake is,the more expensive it will be to send.So keep that in mind while planning the size.
Destination will help you know how much packaging and ice to use.Is it going somewhere hot or cooler?

To make it easier on yourself, try to think easy. Don't do a multi-layer cake, pick a frosting that isn't butter or fat based, rather a fudge pour on frosting or other types. You can also send the cake un-frosted, and include the frosting on the side.

After you have chosen your container and have baked your cake, frost and freeze the cake completely. Freezing will help the cake arrive just as fresh as when you made it.
-
4
Put your cake in the chosen container. Make sure the base of the cake can not slide around. If it can, add in supports on the sides, or pick a better suited container. If you are using the container it was baked in, place toothpicks on the top and wrap well with plastic wrap, then foil. You should place the cake in a small cardboard box, before putting in the shipping box.
-
5
Place your wrapped cake into the shipping box. Place your ice packs (you can also use dry ice, but use caution when handling)around the cake container. Now fill the box completely with foam peanuts, or Styrofoam, plastic bags etc. Fill until the box is full, so there is no room for your cake container to move.
-
6
Tape up the box, and wrap it twice with brown paper bags that have been opened up, or brown paper that comes in a tube like wrapping paper. This will help insulate the package.
-
7
When mailing your cake, choose Priority Mail through the US post office. This will get your cake to its destination in 2-3 days, and it will arrive fresh and ready to be enjoyed!
