  1. Step 1

Your Senior year of high school for most people is their best year. Your time is yours, you are 18 or almost 18 and you have your entire life ahead of you. For most Seniors college is just around the corner and will be here before you know it. As we all know college can be a huge financial burden. Now is the time to start thinking about how you are going to pay for your tuition, books, and boarding. Don't let a lack of money stop you from your college dream. There are ways you can get free money for college that will allow you to pursue your dream of a higher education and all the experiences college offers.

  2. Step 2

Scholarships and Grants - Go talk to your high school guidance counselor about available scholarships and grants. There are strict deadlines, so check early and check often. Apply to as many grants and scholarships as you possibly can. Remember $500 scholarships can add up so it definitely pays to try and get a scholarship or grant, no matter what the amount. Scholarships and grants do NOT have be repaid, they are FREE money! Check online for additional scholarships and grants. There are entire web sites devoted to helping you get the money to attend college.

  3. Step 3

Junior College - Attending your local junior college isn't as glamorous as attending a 4 year college but the savings are significant. The first two years of college whether you attend a Junior College or university are essentially the exact same classes and the Junior College costs are far less but the books are about the same. You can save at least $20,000 by attending a Junior College your first two years. Remember most scholarships and grants apply to junior colleges too.

on 8/13/2009 Good hints. Start off at a junior college even if you plan on going to a 4-year school. Why pay more for the same freshman classes?
