Things You'll Need:
- double-pointed knitting needles size 7 (or size needed to obtain gauge)
- double-pointed knitting needles size 5 (or two sizes smaller than larger needles)
- 1 main color of yarn (A) (shown in blue)
- scraps of white, yellow, and green yarn
- tapestry needle
- scissors
- crochet hook size F or G
-
Step 1
Casting on is a basic knitting techniqueFirst, take time to check your gauge. These legwarmers are knit in the round with a 6st=1 inch gauge. With small sized knitting needles, cast on 36 sts. Work in a k1,p1 rib for 7 rows. Continuing in rib, increase 4 sts evenly around 8th row.
-
Step 2
Switch to larger knitting needles. Work in stockinette stitch for 4.5 inches. Purl for 1.5 inches.
-
Step 3
Notice the contrast between the knit and purl stitches before the ribbingYou will continue to use your large knitting needles, working a k2,p2 rib for 1.5 inches. Bind off.
-
Step 4
The rib bends over the elastic to cover the purled stitchesTie a square knot with one piece of elastic, pulling tightly so the knot does not come undone. Slip this over the k2,p2 rib. Using a tapestry needle, stitch the binded off edge to the first purled row, folding over and hiding the elastic.
-
Step 5
Next, you need to crochet 3 daisies as follows: With crochet hook and yellow, ch 3, slst to form loop. Work 6 dbl crochet in the loop, slst to join. With white, slst to the top of one dbl crochet, ch 3 in the same loop, ch 3 into the same loop, and slst to the next loop. You have one petal. Continue in this manner until you have 6 petals. Cut yarn, leaving 12-inch tails. If these are a baby shower gift, you may want to crochet a few more daisies to use as wrapping decorations.
-
Step 6
A pair of Daisy Cutes baby legwarmersWith tapestry needle, stitch the daisies to the legwarmer body using the tails. With green, stitch winding stems to each daisy. Weave in all loose ends, and your little now one has her own pair of DAISY CUTES!
