Step 1
To start with you should clean your cat's litter box at least once a day. And at least once a week, empty the entire litterbox & put fresh litter in it.
-
Step 2
Although not always possible, if you can try to keep the litter box in a well-ventilated area such as in a room that has a window with a screen that you can leave open just a little bit.
-
Step 3
If you have multiple cats, you might want to think about keeping more than one litter box. A general rule that is recommended is to have one more litter box than the number of cats in the household. If you have two cats, you should have three litter boxes.
-
Step 4
To help reduce odors, you can add baking soda, a multi-cat litter, or an enzyme product such as Nature's Miracle Litter Treatment to the litterbox. You may also want to consider installing an automatic air deodorizer but make sure you don't make it too strong, as cat's tend to not like strong scents.
-
Step 5
You can also purchase a self-cleaning litter box. These are automatic boxes that "rake" away the cat's waste into a bag a few minutes after your cat leaves the litter box. If you are unable to clean the litter box regularly (you might have to go away for a night, or work long hours) you might want to consider this.
