How to Remove Dog Urine Stains From Hardwood Floors thumbnail
staining can make your floor have unsightly dark spots

If you have an animal and hard wood floors, you have probably seen that even cleaning it up right away can leave a black stain on your floors, some people say that you have to remove the finish from your floor and sand out the urine stain but I have a better solution that I have done and it works! Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • an old rag big enough to cover the stain

Instructions

The first thing you will want to do is find a rag the size of the stain, If it is a large stain you can also take an old towel and use that, for a smaller stain cut the towel down to size, you don't want it much larger than the stain.

Soak the rag in the peroxide, make sure that it is saturated.
Do not allow the rag to begin to dry.

    • 3

Lay the rag over the stain and leave it there and let it dry, when you pick up the rag some of the urine should have soaked up into it, you may have to repeat this process several times to completely remove the stain, depending on how dark the stain is, it may just lighten it. Keep repeating until the stain is not visible anymore, this should not do any harm to your floor I have solid hard wood floors with a polyurethane finish and this has never removed any finish or harmed my floor in any way.

Tips & Warnings

  • The sooner you catch the stain the less times you will have to re soak your rag in peroxide.

  • This does work on old stains, it just takes more soaking and letting it dry on the stain.

  • Try not to let the peroxide towel touch anything but the stain, I have heard that it can lighten other parts of your floor. I always cut mine to the size of the stain.
