How to Pack and Keep a "Bug-Out Bag"

A Bug-Out bag's purpose is to allow you to take worthwhile items with you at a moments notice if you are forced from home. It serves the same purpose as a survival kit. Its contents should help you survive for up to three days. Some people recommend keeping a gun with the bag, but that is your choice.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a sturdy bag appropriate for the outdoor environment near you. For example, the bag may need to be water-resistant if you live near areas that may flood. Use a large duffel bag with backpack-style straps or handles.

    • 2

Pack all of the items tightly. Each member of the family should pack extra items for specific needs. Those items may include diapers and formula for an infant and feminine hygiene products for a woman.

    • 3

Keep the bags in the same place in the house. Every family member must know where the bags are and must be able to handle them.

    • 4

Rotate the contents of the bag every other month or so. Replace anything that is about to go bad, especially batteries. Check the batteries on a regular basis to ensure they still work.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't forget the pets.

  • Add as many things as you want.

  • Don't advertise that you have a B.O.B or you may not keep it.
