If you are thinking about starting a business it would be good to know what every single business in the world has in common. If you know the things in common, you can insure that your business plan addresses each of the common items. What follows is the 5 M's that all businesses in the world have in common.

  1. Step 1

    Manufacturing

    All businesses make things or provide a service. The manufacturing is what are the particular business operations. Another way of thinking about this is how the business will create value for its customers.

  2. Step 2

    Marketing

    All businesses need to promote the products or services that they offer. There are many options for this including on the radio, television, newspaper or internet.

  3. Step 3

    Money

    All businesses need money. This is a resource of the company that will be used to purchase supplies, advertising or pay employees. Some businesses will need more than others depending on how large the company is or if they are a service or manufacturing company.

  4. Step 4

    Manpower

    All businesses need manpower. This is a resource that the business has. This can range from a one person operation where they are the only manpower, the employees or other companies hired to perform some task. Regardless, all businesses will need manpower.

  5. Step 5

    Management

    All businesses need management. These are the people who will decide how all the other aspects of the business (manufacturing, marketing, money, manpower) will go together. They will decide the strategy that the business will conduct to create a profit.

  6. Step 6

    There you have it. The basics of all businesses broken down into the 5 M's (Manufacturing, Marketing, Money, Manpower, Management). If you are thinking about starting your own business, it is important to address all of these issues before beginning.
