If you have a window and blinds that are too big or too small, you can adjust the length to fit the window.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • saw with box
  • table saw
  • goggles
  • tape measure or ruler
  • wood block
  1. Step 1

If your blinds are too big and they are the plastic kind, you have to cut them shorter. Do this with a hand saw or even more easily with a table saw.

  2. Step 2

Measure the internal length of the window where you are going to install the blind brackets.

  3. Step 3

Place the blind into the window and mark where to install the brackets at either end. Then install brackets with a screw (don't use a nail - it won't hold).

If the blind is too short, you should get a longer one and cut that blind. You can adjust a short blind by adding a wood block or metal rod to the blind and attach this to the bracket or window well, but the blind may not give you full privacy (there will be a gap in the window).

  4. Step 4

Now, measure the length in between the outermost ends of the brackets blind. Then mark the same length on the blind minus about 2 mm. Usually, one end of the blind has a metal rod inside and you will want to cut the opposite end (where the cord hangs). You can also cut a bit off both ends so the length is right. Don't worry about how neat the cut is because there is a cover that goes into the blind brackets over the space where you insert the blind.

  5. Step 5

A miter saw is the cheap saw they sell at the store with a yellow box that has lines to place the saw into. This is a simple way to cut and a few swift hard strokes should cut the blind.

  6. Step 6

If the individual slats of the blind are also too long, you can use a scissor to cut these to fit into the window. Use a long ruler or straight edge, piece of wood, etc., to make the cut straight and use sharp scissors so the cut is neat.
