Things You'll Need:
- Time
- A space you call Closet
- Assortment of Hangers
- An Assortment of Clothing
- Possibly another Closet
- An Eco friendly way to get rid of what you don't want to keep anymore
- Confidence
- Determination
- Perseverance
-
Step 1
Determine the area in question.
Define it by establishing a hanging rack
and a way to hide it all.
Doors, and screens work well.
This can be accomplished with furniture,
or an already existing area,
or perhaps a revolving devise with three way mirror's.
It's up to you to define your closet.
If it is a make over, then empty
what you call your closet area completely. -
Step 2
Stock your closet now, with appropriate hangers.
Use dress hangers for dress clothes.
Use wooden hangers, for heavier items like pants, formal suits, dresses, and jackets.
Wire hangers, should be eliminated.
They are hard on clothing.
Plastic hangers are okay, for casual wear.
Skirt hangers are also nice to have for skirts.
For a cleaner, streamlined look to your closet, try to have sets of hangers. -
Step 3
Rehang only the items you love and know you will wear.
If you pick up anything you are going to now rehang in your closet that you won't wear this year, please donate it if it's in good condition to someone who will.
Keep that pile going.
As you hang back all your most loved items, try to think in terms of filing sections, as well seasons, as well lengths. This will add a look of tidiness to your closet.
Longer items to the right, fronted by short items, all in color sections.
If you are more comfortable working this to the left, that's okay too.
Long sleeve items and lengthy items to the right, short sleeves, vests, thin straps to the left, and in color sections.
Seasonal items become easier to switch out as well.
Keep hanging it all back up with only what you really want to keep, love, and you think looks good in there and on you.
After you replace it all, what you won't want is out and what you do want is in.
Picture ready yes?

on 2/27/2009 People don't think about it so much I'm sure, but there are few things nicer in one's hovel than a 'clean closet'. ToyBoxes on the other hand, should always be allowed to remain in a random state of disarray... Nice post... Swiss - Taos, NM
