So you want to know how to connect a Wireless-G Broadband router. A Wireless-G broadband router is no different than your garden variety wireless broadband router in terms of set up. It simply offers a greater networking area and bandwidth. This makes it relatively easy to set up.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wireless-G broadband router High-speed Internet with modem CAT-6 (Ethernet) cable
  1. Step 1

Ensure your high-speed Internet is working.

  2. Step 2

Plug your CAT-6 wire into the cable modem (there should only be one port), and then the other end into the Internet port on the router.

  3. Step 3

Plug your router into a power outlet. Allow it two to three minutes to "discover" the Internet connection and set itself up appropriately.

  4. Step 4

Connect your computer to the Internet. Click on "Start," "Control Panel" and "Network Connections." Choose "Wireless Networks," then view wireless networks. Assuming you only have one router in the house, your Wireless-G router will be by far the strongest on the list. Double-click it.

  5. Step 5

Test your Internet connection by opening a browser. You may need to wait a few minutes or even reboot before your computer connects.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check out your Wireless-G's directions for information about how to customize your network with your own name or a password for added security. These steps vary widely by router and can be a bit confusing, so read them carefully.
