Pfaltzgraff began in 1811. It started as a small rural pottery shop making earthenware. Today, Pfaltzgraff has 147 patterns. Each has an assortment of items you can purchase to go along with your basic dinner set. You can purchase salt and pepper shakers, vegetable bowls, serving platters, butter dishes, silverware and even place mats. Some patterns have matching candle holders or teapots.   1. How to Identify Pfaltzgraff Patterns

      Look for the Pfaltzgraff stamp on the bottom of all its pieces. The stamp includes the copyright trademark and tells you the piece is original. Even earlier designs such as the 1970s Village pattern and the simplicity of Folk Art have the Pfaltzgraff stamp.

      At the Pfaltzgraff website, click "Patterns and Collections" to view the 147 patterns, as well as the top five: Winterberry, Napoli, Naturewood, Tea Rose and Yorktowne. Yorktowne came out in 1967 and has a simple blue motif, which accommodates many decors. Tea Rose is a soft-flowered design. Naturewood is botanical. Napoli is a combination of orange and yellow. Winterberry has red berries and green trim.
