Having a leaky toilet is annoying and costly. Such problems can be easily resolved by replacing the flapper valve which is located at the bottom of the toilet tank. A flapper valve is made of rubber and looses its seal after some time of excessive flushing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Needle nose pliers Razor or knife
  1. Step 1

Turn off water. In a clockwise motion, turn off the toilet's water valve. The valve is located on the wall, on the side of the toilet base.

  2. Step 2

Flush toilet. To remove most, if not all water from the tank, hold down the handle while flushing.

  3. Step 3

Wipe tank. Using a sponge, wipe the bottom of the tank to soak up the access water.

  4. Step 4

Remove circle. The new flapper usually has a circular piece located in between the two "ears" of the flapper. With a razor or knife, simply cut out the unnecessary circular part.

  5. Step 5

Install. The flapper's "ears" will snap into place on both sides of the fill valve.

  6. Step 6

Attach chain. Trim any excess chain links, only leaving a little slack to lift the flapper. Attach chain to the flush handle.

  7. Step 7

Refill tank. Turn on the water valve and allow the toilet tank to refill.
