How to Remove Your Name From Yahoo People Search

Have you ever been contacted by someone with whom you didn't want to be in contact? Did you wonder how that person found your phone number or email address? They may have used Yahoo! People Search to track you down. To avoid further unwanted contacts, you can take a few seconds and remove your name from Yahoo! People Search.

Deleting Yourself from the Yahoo! People Search Directory

1. Either type in "www.yahoo.com" in the url bar or type "Yahoo!" in the Internet search bar.

2. On the Yahoo! home page, scroll all the way to the bottom, where there is a series of hypertext phrases and words beginning with "Advertise with Us" and ending with "Jobs." Click on "Help" in that series of phrases and words.

3. On the "Help Central" page, there is a box that contains a list titled "More Yahoo! Services." Click on the yellow box that says "All Yahoo! Services."

4. On the "A-Z Help Index" page, click on "People Search."

5. There are two ways to remove your listing from the "People Search" page. You can either click on "About Listings (Email and Telephone)" or you can click on "General" (this page is ideal because it includes a link to a statement by Yahoo! about where they get people's public information and what can be done about it).

6. On the "About Listings (Email and Telephone)" page, click on "How do I remove my listing?"

7. On the "How do I remove my listing?" page, click on "Data Removal Form."

   On the "General" page, you can click on "How does Yahoo! protect my privacy?" and see where the information on Yahoo! People Search comes from.

   On this page, Yahoo! explains that the data is licensed from Intelius, which is a company that gathers and publishes public data from the white pages and other places. Yahoo! says on the page that the data in the Intelius database is out of their control, but once it is licensed to the Yahoo! People Search database, they can suppress it immediately upon your request. From this page, you can click on "Data Removal Form," just like on the "How do I remove my listing?" page.

8. Fill out the Data Removal Form, including the reason for which you want your name removed, type in the code word at the bottom of the form, and click on the box that says "Remove Me." This should instantly remove your name from Yahoo! People Search.
