There are some special considerations to make when designing a medical facility, however. A designer must look at accessibility for the disabled as well as maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness.

1. Determine how many chiropractors will be working in the space. Decide whether shared or individual office space is necessary. Make sure each office is large enough to include a desk, storage area, and seating area.

2. Decide how many exam or treatment rooms will be required. This can be based on the number of patients that will be treated daily, or on the number of doctors that will be working in the office. Each exam room should include an exam table, a desk or counter top and several chairs.

3. Include a lobby that allows adequate traffic flow. The size of the lobby and waiting room should be based on the expected number of patients. This areas will include a reception desk, seating section, and some storage.

4. Provide restrooms for patients and staff. Communal rooms are fine for patients, but staff toilets should be located outside of public areas.

5. Check your local accessibility and fire codes as they relate to medical offices. These codes can tell you the number of means of egress required, sprinkler information, and how to make the space accessible for those with disabilities.

6. Consider adding a staff lounge or kitchen. This will provide a place for doctors and other staff members to store food and personal belongings.
