Put Hair in a Hair Clip

Putting hair into a clip is an easy way to get it off your face and securely back without using an elastic (which can damage hair and/or put a crimp or "bump" into a hairstyle). It can also be a very elegant choice for formal events.

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair clip Shoulder-length or longer hair

    Twist it Up!

  1. Step 1

Gather hair into a ponytail. Make sure to smooth it out and eliminate bumps. If you have a lot of trouble with a "bumpy" finished style, before gathering into a ponytail, spray a brush with hairspray and run it through your hair.

  2. Step 2

Determine the height. The closer to the nape of the neck, the more formal and prim the hairstyle becomes, ideal for work or special occasions. The higher it goes, the more casual and "fun" the style becomes. Gather the ponytail at the ideal height for the finished hairstyle.

  3. Step 3

Twist the ponytail. If hair is very long, coil the hair around the center twist. If short, one twist at the base of the ponytail will be fine. Make sure the "tail" or the ends of the hair are going upward.

  4. Step 4

Pin the tail. Directly above the twist, slide the clip into your hair, capturing both the tail and the hair closest to your scalp. This will result in a firm grip and a stable style.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your hair slips out of the clip, spray the clip with hairspray before inserting into your hair. It will increase the grip.
