It is extremely user-friendly, which gives everyone the opportunity to experience and reap the benefits of this newly discovered technology. All you need is your own email address and these steps will help you get one.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Go to the Windows Live Account Services page (see Resources below). Click on "Sign Me Up for a Free MSN Hotmail Email Address" and "Continue" to begin creating your new MSN email account.

  2. Step 2

Fill out the data forms provided on the next page. You will be prompted to create a new user name for your account; enter a user name that is unique. On the next data form, create a password that you can easily remember but is also strong enough not to be broken or hacked by others. The generator located at the bottom of the data form will calculate the strength of your password. Ensure that your password is characterized as "strong" before proceeding.

  3. Step 3

Choose your security question. Make sure your security question isn't generic enough for everyone to solve. This is important because others can go in and generate your password by answering your questions and filling out your data forms.

  4. Step 4

Read the "Terms of Agreement" regarding your MSN email account. Click "I Agree" to continue. The next screen will indicate the completion of your MSN Email Account registration.

  5. Step 5

Login to your account and double-check your demographic information is correct. This is extremely important because your demographic information will save regardless of being entered correctly or incorrectly because there is no way of verifying it. This ensures that you can retrieve your password or log-in information if you forget it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Come up with a user name that is easy for you and others to remember. This cuts down on confusion and errors receiving confidential mail. Use passwords that are easy for you to remember, yet strong enough to be difficult for others to figure out.
  • Do not give your password to anyone. The digital age is a new way of life so your email can be considered an extremely confidential asset regarding your identity. Keep it to yourself. Avoid filling out lots of forms and online ads that require you to enter your email address. This can create lots of spam mail that can become an inconvenience and cause a flood of unwanted email to your account. Try to avoid sending extremely confidential information to people or companies you are not sure are legitimate. Never send your social security information via email, as this can raise your chances of being a victim of identity theft.
