How to Use Incense Burner Bottles
For millennia, people worldwide from every culture have used incense. Its use is still popular for many. Whether you choose to use incense as part of a spiritual practice, for aromatherapy or simply to add fragrance to your living space, there always seems to be the inevitable cleaning up of the residual burned ashes. One way to avoid this is to use incense burner bottles. By allowing stick incense to burn inside of a distinctly-designed bottle, the fragrant smoke is released from holes drilled into the glass and the ashes are collected inside of the bottle. Once the incense has burned, the ashes are emptied into the trash, leaving virtually no mess behind to clean up. Does this Spark an idea?

Open the incense burner bottle. Most bottles will have a cap or a lid that is specifically designed to hold the unlit end of a burning stick of incense.

2
Place the lid, inverted, on a flat surface.

3
Hold the uncoated portion of the incense stick firmly in your hand. Use a lighter to ignite the tip of the coated section of the incense stick. Hold the tip of the incense in the flame for one or two seconds until it begins to glow bright orange. Blow out the flame or wave the stick to put out the flame, while leaving the tip of the stick glowing.

4
Insert the uncoated section that you are holding into the opening in the underside of the bottle's lid.
-
5
Replace the lid (now holding the burning incense) onto the bottle. The incense should continue to burn, releasing fragrant smoke through the holes or vents cut into the sides of the bottle. Ashes will be dropped inside of the bottle as the incense burns. Place the bottle on a flat and stable surface.
