If you're a webmaster who is providing a service on your site, maintaining customers is important. Mailing lists provide that one-on-one contact between businesses and customers that develops your site's very own online community. For many sites, generating a mailing list is the way to go.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • HTML editor
  1. Step 1

Let visitors know of your plan. Most visitors are not too fond of mailing lists because they fear being spammed dozens of times a day. Make clear in a short paragraph what the mailing list will consist of, when news will be sent out, how many times it will be sent, and that you will not share email addresses with third parties.

  2. Step 2

Open your website editor and locate the area where you want to place the code for your mailing list. Make sure it's in a location where visitors will be able to see it when they visit your site.

  3. Step 3

Use a feedback form generator. Go to OdioWorks (see Resources) and click on "Customize Free Feedback Forms." The next window will show you an example of what the form will look like. Click on "Customize an HTML Feedback Form Now!", which is located in an orange rectangle on the right-hand side.

  4. Step 4

Create your form. Once you are at the window that outlines the various blocks to fill out to get your contact-form code, go through each block slowly to determine what you need. Enter your email address first so the form generator knows where the results will be sent. Once you're done, click "Generate Free Form." You will be directed to a new window that will have the code you need. Highlight the format that best fits your site.
